Did you know? The Gulf of Maine is home to the Jonah Crab. 

For years, lobstermen despised them because they worked their way into the lobster pots to steal the bait. 

Once freed from the traps they were tossed back into the Atlantic under a shower of curses. Finally, someone had the sense to take them home and put them in the pot. 

Turns out that the crabs were delicious, and a cottage industry sprung up in Maine steaming, picking and selling their meat. And it turned out that the larger ones had nice juicy claws that gave the coveted Stone Crab claws from Florida a run for their money (at about half the price).

Today, Jonah crabs have found their niche in the marketplace, and with increasing popularity. Landed fresh year-round, they are harvested inshore and offshore by lobster boats. Their flaky, sweet meat is rich and often compared to the flavor of its Pacific cousin, the Dungeness. Larger crabs are selected especially to be sold as “cocktail” claws, which is the entire arm and claw attached, about 6 to 8 pieces to the pound.

They are steamed and frozen immediately to trap it is sweet, ocean flavor – and are ready to be eaten and enjoyed once thawed. Serve them with some tangy seafood cocktail sauce, aioli, hot sauce, or even some drawn butter like you would lobster. Once you crack open the Jonah crab, prepared to be hooked!

Thawing Jonah Crab Claws: When selecting your delivery date for our Jonah Crab Claws, please remember they are shipped frozen, and you will need approximately 24 hours to let them thaw. The most effective way to do this is by placing them in the refrigerator for one day prior to enjoying. If you need them faster, you can thaw at room temp for a few hours, and if you need them right away thaw under running cold water.

Shipping Details

We ship frozen orders Monday through Friday for delivery Tuesday through Saturday*. We will ship your package via 2nd Day Air or Ground service depending on your location. Saturday deliveries are available in most areas and incur an additional $25 at checkout once selected and verified.

  • Orders placed on Monday thru Thursday will ship same-day if placed before 6am ET with the following exception:
  • Orders placed with a specific future-arrival* date will ship within 1-3 business days to arrive on the selected delivery date.
  • Orders placed after 6am ET Thursday thru Sunday will ship Monday with the following exception:
  • Orders placed with a specific future-arrival* date will ship within 1-3 business days to arrive on the selected delivery date.
  • Order cut off is 6am ET on Thursdays for Saturday delivery (where available).

We are unable to ship to APO/FPO, P.O. Boxes, and destinations outside the U.S.A. 

The Tracking Number for your shipment will be emailed to you on the evening your order is picked up by the carrier and scanned into their system.

*Future-arrival: when selected delivery date is three or more days in the future. Orders ship via UPS/FEDEX/GLS and ONTRAC; Priority Overnight service (Live Lobster & Fresh Fish), 2nd Day Air or Ground (in some areas).

Receiving Frozen Products

When you receive a food item marked “Keep Refrigerated” or “Perishable,” open it immediately and check its temperature. The food should arrive frozen or partially frozen with ice crystals still visible or at least refrigerator cold — below 40 °F as measured with a food thermometer.

Storage Instructions

Store in the freezer until you're ready to use/thaw for immediate use. It's best to keep the frozen item in original packaging (not including the shipping box) or transfer  to airtight freezer bags to prevent freezer burn and maintain freshness. 

Make sure your freezer temperature is set to 0°F (-18°C) or below to keep the item properly frozen. Items frozen can typically remain safe to eat for up to 6 to 12 months. However, the quality may begin to decline over time, so we recommend enjoying within the first few months of purchase for the best taste and texture.
